Our professionals possess unique skill sets that enable us to prepare and analyze claim issues promoting timely resolution. GREEN ACE provides Forensic Structural Engineering, which is the professional practice of investigating and determining the causes of failures of constructed facilities, as well as rendering opinions and, if required, giving testimony in judicial proceedings.

Our work is often used in court as evidence in personal injury or product liability cases. Our Forensic Engineers play two roles in their work: that of a detective, gathering clues and evidence; and that of an engineer, using this evidence to analyze the event.

Forensic Engineering is the application of engineering principles, knowledge, skills, and methodologies to answer questions of fact. These questions of fact are usually associated with accidents, crimes, catastrophic events, degradation of property, and various types of failure.

The reason why GREEN ACE forensic professionals are needed is typically distilled down to the desire by one or more parties to determine why a failure or issue occurred. The desire to seek this information usually involves determining responsible parties so costs associated with the failure can be properly allocated.

Forensic Engineering has been defined as "the investigation of failures - ranging from serviceability to catastrophic - which may lead to legal activity, including both civil and criminal". Forensic engineering is the application of engineering principles to the investigation of failures or other performance problems and also involves testimony on the findings of these investigations before a court of law or other judicial forum, when required.

We provide advice to lawyers, analyzing cases (including site visits, preparing expert reports, providing depositions (“expert witness”) and acting as an expert witness in court.

We practice Forensic Engineering associated with cause (what happened) and origin (what was the event that caused something to happen) determinations associated with claims in the insurance industry. We perform investigations to determine whether the event is a covered peril. For any given investigation, our Forensic Engineers rely on education, training, and experience, with emphasis on experience and knowledge of best practice documents associated with the trades and codes and standards. When investigating a new failure situation and armed with little information regarding the specific situation, we rely on past experience to ultimately make causation and origin decisions.

Each project is a bit of a mystery as to how and why it occurred. Green Ace’s experienced engineers use sound methodologies and investigation protocols to solve these mysteries.

The interest of the legal community in using forensic professionals from GREEN ACE is typically associated with the need to:

  • Determine root cause failures and resulting responsible parties
  • Quantify the extent of damages
  • Qualify necessary repairs
  • Provide expert witness services for pending/actual litigation

The legal community typically uses this information to help determine responsible parties for damage or injured parties and to determine if claims have been appropriately addressed by insurance providers.
